Mikalojus Radvila The Black (1515-1565)

The Radvila family is one of the most influential families in the history of Lithuania. Mikalojus Radvila was the Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Vilnius Province Governor and Vice-regent of Livonia, and an ardent fighter against the Lublin Union. Many considered him the actual uncrowned King of Lithuania.

Grand Duke Vytautas The Great (1350-1430)

His reign marked both the greatest territorial expansion of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the defeat of the Teutonic Knights in the Battle of Grunwald in 1410. He is revered as a national hero and was an important figure in Lithuania’s national rebirth in the 19th century.

Grand Duke Algirdas (1296-1377)

Son of Gediminas, acquired influence and territory at the expense of Muscovy and the Golden Horde, and extended the borders of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania to the northern shore of the Black Sea.

Grand Duke Kestutis (1297-1382)

He was the Duke of Trakai and governed the Grand Duchy of Lithuania together with his brother, Algirdas. He ruled over the and Ruthenians.

Grand Duke Gediminas (1275-1341)

Founded the political entity of Lithuania, and expanded its territory from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea. Also seen as one of the most significant individuals in early Lithuanian history, he was responsible for both erecting the capital of Lithuania, and the establishment of a dynasty that can be traced to other European monarchies such as Poland, Hungary, and Bohemia.

Mindaugas (1200-1263)

The first, and only King of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. He united Baltic tribes and created the Lithuanian state. He is also now credited with stopping Lithuanians the advance of the Tartars towards the Baltic Sea.

Jack Benny

Jack Benny was born Benjamin Kubelsky on February 14, 1894, in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in neighboring Waukeegan, Illinois. He was the son of Meyer Kubelsky and Emma Sachs Kubelsky. Meyer was a Jewish saloon owner, later to become a haberdasher, who had emigrated to America from Poland. Emma had emigrated from Lithuania. Jack Benny was an American comedian, vaudevillian, and actor for radio, television and film. Widely recognized as one of the leading American entertainers of the 20th century, Benny played the role of the comic penny-pinching miser, insisting on remaining 39 years old on stage despite his actual age, and often playing the violin badly.

Charles Bronson

Charles Bronson, born Charles Dennis Buchinsky (or Buchinskas) in Ehrenfeld, Pennsylvania, in the Allegheny Mountain Coal region north of Johnstown. During the McCarthy hearings, he changed his last name to Bronson, fearing that Buchinsky sounded “to Russian.” He was one of 15 children born to a Lithuanian immigrant father of Lipka Tatar ancestry, and a Lithuanian-American mother. His father hailed from the town of Druskininkai. His mother’s parents were born in Lithuania.
Bronson was an American actor, best-known for such films as Once Upon a Time in the West, The Magnificent Seven, The Dirty Dozen, The Great Escape, Rider on the Rain, The Mechanic, and the popular Death Wish series. He often cast in the role of a police officer or gunfighter, often in revenge-oriented plot lines.
